Metrology Technician



Responsibility to ensure a safe work environment, provide premier customer service, reduce operating costs, inventories and lead times through continuous improvement. 

Essential Duties/Responsibilities

  • The Metrology Technician is responsible for performing the following duties:
  • Maintains receiving inspection and dock audit program.
  • Performs dimensional layouts to support quality system.
  • Maintains product validation testing schedule.
  • Assist in performing capability studies.
  • Maintains gage control/maintenance program and gage R&R program.
  • Advises on methods of resolving measurement problems.
  • Provides technical assistance for CMM operators monitoring machining lines.
  • Provides technical measurement assistance to Engineering in trouble-shooting processes.
  • Maintains programs for laboratory and manufacturing CMMs.
  • Sets up and conducts brake functional and dimensional checks involving investigation and analysis.
  • Assists in preparation of PPAP submission documentation.
  • Maintains Quality Assurance Metrology Lab Equipment.
  • Complies with all safety policies and procedures.
  • May be required to train others.

Education and/or Experience (minimum required for the position)
High School Diploma or GED required as well as post high school education/training.
Essential Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Minimum of three (3) years’ experience in an industrial environment.
  • CMM Programming experience preferred.
  • Familiarity with various types of metrology equipment preferred.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office.
  • Experience using gage calibration software is preferred.


Supervisory Responsibilities
            This position has no direct supervisory responsibility. 

Physical Demands/Environment
            While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear.  The employee regularly is required to stand.  The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts.  The employee is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions and vibration.  The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
